The good news is, IE 8 is a major step ahead for the web, with increased standardization so everyone can see sites as they were intended. The bad news is that your website might become a mess of images and text when the automatic upgrade takes over.
What can you do about it?
Luckily the good folks at Microsoft developed a little button that will magically align your images and text again! Yay! You will be asked when you upgrade if you want the Compatibility View to be automatic. This option is great if people use it, and if they understand what it is for.

Unfortunately, techno-gadgety buttons are slow to be adopted. Which means that if your website does show up broken in IE 8, you should get it fixed instead of relying on your users to fix it themselves.
Which websites will be broken?
Any website designed when IE 6 was all the rage will probably be affected. Nowadays, programmers are more conscious about compatibility issues between browser platforms and code accordingly.
If you are in the middle of a site build, ask your developer to make sure that your site tests well in IE 8. This will ensure that your website is not outdated the moment it goes live. If your site was recently developed by us, rest assured that your site was already tested for IE 8 compatibility and your investment is well protected.
