Why Email Marketing Isn’t Dead

Sure there are hipper, sexier marketing strategies like Twitter and Facebook, but for the effort, email outpaces all of them in revenue-producing ability.

“The effectiveness of e-mail as a marketing tactic can’t be denied – and we look to budgets as the ultimate indicator. According to MarketingSherpa, a much larger percentage of organizations increased their e-mail marketing budgets this year than decreased them. ” Source: Website magazine

The money is in the list

We’ve all heard that it takes more money and time to convert a new client than it takes to keep an old one. That being the case, you already have a veritable gold mine of new business sitting in your address book. How long has it been since you touched base with your clients? If it has been more than one month you’re missing out on a huge opportunity to engage your clients.

Unlike social media, where most people are happy talking at you, email is an open conversation waiting for someone to start talking. The people on the other end of your email have already had a relationship with you. They know you and trust you and that’s half the battle to converting a sale. There is money in your existing list if you have services that would augment, enhance or improve the service or product they have already purchased from you.

Social media can’t do that

If you’re serious about generating some revenue forget about social media (for the moment anyway). Social media is good at lots of things (like driving traffic to your website) but it’s not good at segmenting your audience. Email can deliver the analytics and tools to help you segment your list into different groups. The ability to segment your list makes email powerful beyond just the obvious “touch base” that it provides.
