Web Page Titles That Work

Better web page titles make it easier for both Internet users and search engines to find your site. Web page titles are found at the top of your browser window, just to the right of your browser’s logo. Web page titles that are descriptive, unique, and accurately describe the information located on the page will go a long way toward more site traffic and improved rankings. Here are some tips to help:

Short Titles Are Best

Google only displays the first 64 characters of a title, and a title that is too long looks unfocused and will likely confuse Internet users who are searching for specific information.

Be Unique

Don’t give all of the pages on your site the same title, even if they are all about the same thing (and they shouldn’t be).  Give each page its own unique, descriptive title so that visitors and search engines can easily search your site.

Don’t Spam:

Don’t stuff all of your keywords into the title. Although it is obviously important to include them, trying to fit five keywords into a three word title doesn’t work very well. Remember that the first sentence of the content on the page is also important to search engines, and that the most important thing is to have high quality, original content and to fit the keywords in naturally.
