Web Design for a Construction Company

Historically, only large multi-million dollar construction companies bothered to get a website. That trend is reversing as more sole-props are seeing the value that a website can provide them in the areas of marketing, sales and client retention.

If you’re more comfortable working with a power drill than you are with a mouse and keyboard, getting a website for your construction company can seem like an overwhelming task. The good news is that if you’ve made it to this post, you’re further ahead than you think.

We’re going to cover what your website should have and why to make it easy for you to start the conversation with a web designer. So let’s dive in!

Must Have’s

Portfolio – This should include before and after shots of projects you’ve worked on. When people are researching for their next job, they will want to see your quality and your style.

List of Services – Do you specialize in remodels? Will you also be able to add new outlets and move plumbing? Your list of services will immediately let the homeowner know if you can handle the whole job or if they will also need to find other contractors to do what you can’t.

Contact Database – This can be as simple as a contact form that stores email addresses in an excel document, or it can be as complex as creating a signup form for a monthly e-newsletter. Whatever you do, it’s important not to let your website deliver information passively. You need a way to collect email addresses (at a minimum) from people who are interested in your services so you can contact them later.

Content – The more information a website gives to your potential clients, the more effective it’s going to be. Remember, you’re trying to use your website to make sales. What kind of questions do you get? Answer those with your content, and you’ll start hearing the phone ring. Great content also has a way of getting noticed by search engines. You definitely want their attention!

Testimonials – Unfiltered testimonials are the best ones to have. Join consumer search websites like Kudzu, Yelp, or Mojopages.  This “warts and all” approach will immediately help your prospects see you as trustworthy.

Nice To Have

Client Login – This password protected area can house all your information about the project, your timelines, any issues that have come up, and decisions or changes. This area is accessible by your client and can be a great way for them to keep up with the going’s on with their project.

Blog/Newsletter – Blogs and newsletters both require a commitment from you or a member of your staff to make them happen. If you don’t think you have the time for it find someone who can help you with copywriting, or contact us about our copywriting services.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – The first place a potential prospect will go to find a service provider is their favorite search engine. SEO will help your website get found and ranked so your site will show up when your prospect enters a search term.
