“Thank You” Pages Don’t Have to be the End

For many business owners, getting a prospect to the “Thank You” page is the ultimate goal. Thank you pages mean the prospect has become a bona fide customer. It means the website has done its job, and success has been achieved. Likewise, for the customers who get to this page, it signals the end of the transaction. They are released to go to another site or close the web browser and get on with their other chores.

What if the “Thank You” page was the start of something new?

With just a few tweaks, your “Thank You” page can actually continue the relationship that you’ve just started with your new customer. Here are a few ideas you can put into place easily.

Begin Your Customer Service

Thanking your customer is easy… but the rest of the page is so big and blank. Why not add some content to let your new customer know what they can expect to happen next? Will you call them? Are there any documents or downloads that they can get started with right away while they wait for their product to ship? Take a moment to remind them about your support options and give them the links so they can visit other parts of your site.

Create an Account

Most business owners are reluctant to ask for a lot of information before the sale. But once the sale is finished and you have their information, why not offer them the option to sign up to your newsletter, blog or create an account for your support area right on your thank you page? You already have their information, all  you need is for them to agree. One click could sign them up to get ongoing information from you.

Share the Offer

It’s possible that your new customer has friends or family that might enjoy your products or service. Use your thanks page to make it easy for them to share the product, service or special promotion by giving them the link, or simply providing a few empty email fields they can fill out.

Attention spans are only getting shorter. Once someone reaches the thank you page, their goal is 99% complete. They have 1% remaining to make sure that they don’t need to hang around your site any longer, but you are still the focus of their attention. Instead of sending them off, redirect their attention to additional information you might have on your blog. Keep the information relevant and you stand a better chance of recapturing their interest.
