Step-by-Step Guide to Getting a More Effective Website

I came in today to seven emails that each have a report, webinar announcement, or blog article that I really want to read, attend or download. That’s seven emails on top of the pile of emails that I have to read anyway, and I’m wondering when I’m going to find time to get to all of it!

Obviously, I’m suffering from a moment of information overload. This got me thinking about you, and how I write these posts each day with tactical and strategic tips and ideas to help your website become more effective. And you’re probably wondering “Where do I start and how am I going to get to all of it and still do my job?”

So, here’s my step-by-step guide to help you start making the right changes, in the right order, to make your website start working for your company. Ready?

1. Install Analytics

Google Analytics is free and it has extremely robust reporting. You need to start here so that you know the baseline for how your site is performing. Later, you can follow my other blog posts that will help you analyze and make sense of the numbers you’re seeing. If you get your site developed by us, we install Google Analytics as a part of our development process. If you don’t know your login info, give us a call, we’re happy to send it to you.

2. Take an Inventory

When was the last time you looked at every page of your website to make sure all the information is correct and all the links work the way they should? Leave no stone unturned — especially if you have an E-commerce site. There are many functions and special modules that should get your attention. Fix any errors you find.

3. Create Information

You can choose to write a blog, newsletter, or special report(s). Content like this will require a subscription by your users to access it. This will help you build your list of contacts, and make it easy for you to keep in touch with people who have shown an interest in your company or product.

4. Pick a Platform and Partner

  • If you choose to write blog posts, we recommend WordPress.
  • If you choose to write special reports, we recommend Aweber.
  • If you choose to develop an E-mail newsletter, we recommend Constant Contact or Aweber.

Now you just need a partner to help you pull it all together!

Once you complete these four steps, your website will be poised to start bringing in some fresh opportunities and you’ll see some dramatic improvements in your bottom line. Let us be your partner for website success. Contact us with questions or with help getting started.
