The internet has entirely changed the face of marketing. Today, potential customers do their research online before they ever think to pick up the phone. With the plethora of information on the internet, it is likely that their questions will be answered for free. Which is one reason why your content needs to be focused on their needs, and not on your business. With that in mind, here are three steps to ensuring that your blog isn’t turning people away, but instead it is capturing attention and creating leads for your business.
1. Catchy Headline
Frequently, the headline is the only thing that your reader will see. To be effective, it needs to summarize what your post is about while also giving a benefit to the reader.
2. Useful Content
When I say useful, I mean useful to your READER. Whatever you do, don’t use your blog as a way to talk about your company’s products or services. Blogs get found by people with a question or problem using a search engine. It is okay to let people know how your company can solve their problem, but remember that is not the point. If you state anything about your company it should be at the very end of the post, and it should be brief and to the point. More about that next.
3. Call to action
If you have a free resource that can further help your reader, tell them about it at the end of the post. This call to action will not only help them, but it will also give you a way to put more information in their hands. The more information you provide, the more you establish yourself as a trusted authority.
