Google Revamps Image Search

Google has revamped Google Images to include a tiled image layout, thumbnail image previews, and other features that will appeal widely to users. And they didn’t leave the advertisers out either – ads displayed near Image Search results will now also feature images.  This gives advertisers the opportunity to visually present their products, and it gives Internet users the opportunity to see image-based ads alongside their search.

Example of Google Images Search

Since 2001, Google Images has provided a way for Internet users to locate images in their search results, making it easier for people to find the answers to questions that are best considered visually.  Choosing between two different types of similar items, like wedding cakes or cashmere sweaters, viewing the rings around Saturn or counting the number of legs on an octopus, are all possible with Google Images, thanks to the roughly 10 billion images that have been indexed by Google.

Now, with the increased functionality on Google Images, the search engine is expanding its demographic to include those more visually inclined, and presenting a unique opportunity for advertisers at the same time.
