Five Tips For Making A Great Viral Video

A recent study conducted by NielsenWire.com shows that the time spent viewing videos online has increased by 25% per viewer.  Viral videos and video marketing are everywhere online, and if you haven’t made your own videos yet, you are probably wondering just how all of these other people and companies are managing not only to create videos, but to create videos that get viewed and passed on by a large audience.  Luckily for you, the viral video creation process doesn’t have to be difficult.  Here are some tips to help you get started:

  1. Have A Plan: Whether this means a script, a strategy or simply an idea, it is important to take the time to work out the details before the camera starts rolling.  If you can’t come up with a viable idea on your own, ask your video production team or coworkers for ideas. Have a brainstorming session if necessary—you’ll be surprised by how many workable ideas you are able to come up with simply by doing this. Viral video is all about coming up with unique angles and ways to present a product or image.
  2. Outline Your Steps: This goes along with the first tip, but again, whether you are using a script or not, it is important to outline each step of the video. Who says what when? When does the camera cut away and when should it come in for a close-up, etc.
  3. Choose Your Method: There are many different types of video software available, from free programs like Camtasia to animated slide show services like Animoto, there are a wide range of software programs and tools available for you to use. The software and/or programs that you choose will depend on your level of video expertise, and your budget.
  4. Timing Is Everything: Most video creation experts recommend making your video no longer than 30 seconds. If you need to make a longer video, consider breaking it up into two or more parts.
  5. Think Outside Of The Box: If your goal is brand awareness consider the fact that the most successful viral videos are able to promote the product without constantly reminding the viewer that this is what the video is doing. In other words-forget those corporate video scripts and be creative.

A thirty second viral video will be great for my website. It is simple and informative with a hint of comedy. I already have a person that is willing to put me in the short introductions of a couple of poems that are in my book. Of course i have disquised myself, because I have chosen not to have my photo on my book, flyers, or business cards. there are two poems in my book of poetry that I will talk about, and they can be described briefly as not to use up the 30 seconds allowed. Thank you. I will be in touch when i’m ready.
