Facebook Business Pages: What they do, and how to get one

Why should your business have a Facebook page? Simple: Facebook is quickly becoming the most popular social networking site in the United States and worldwide.  There is a good chance that most everyone you know has their own personal Facebook page, and you’ve probably noticed that many businesses and groups also have business or “Fan” Pages that Facebook users can subscribe to as well.

This is where the personal networking side of Facebook ends, and the marketing and business development side of Facebook begins.  While your business can’t have a profile page, it can have a Fan Page, which will allow you to:

  • Share general information about your business and your website
  • Showcase videos about your business
  • Upload and include links to press releases
  • Share your blog RSS link
  • Directly market your products and services to consumers who are interested in them
  • Grow your online presence
  • Connect with clients and customers all over the world

These are just some of the many benefits of creating a Page for your business.  Best of all, the actual creation is fast, easy, and requires no technical expertise whatsoever.  Here’s what you do:

  1. Login to your personal Facebook account
  2. Click on Advertising, then Pages
  3. Fill in the required information (keep in mind that the more information you include, the better your Page will look and there will be a greater chance that Google and other search engines will consider it more authoritative)
  4. Don’t forget to include all of the images, logos, videos, RSS blog feeds, etc. that you have.

Over time, you can add more info and apps, host interactive polls and contests, and so much more. Whatever your business does, a Facebook  Fan Page can help you do it better, and reach a wider audience at the same time.
