According to a recent report from TechCrunch, Facebook, which currently has over 350 million users, is poised to become the most popular social networking site in the world.
Over the past year, the number of users in countries outside the United States, particularly Europe, Africa, and Latin America, has grown significantly. In Russia, the popular Vkontakte.ru networking site is still number one. However, TechCrunch reports that the owner of this site, Digital Sky Technologies, is also a major Facebook stockholder – so a merger between these two is not a far-flung possibility.
If the two did merge, the number of Facebook users would easily make it the most popular social networking site. Even without it though, Facebook is quickly eclipsing its competition.
So what does this mean to you?
Are you on Facebook? Is your business on Facebook? If not, you’d better make it one of your New Year’s resolutions. Setting up a page is easy and, incidentally, is also a great way to obtain new business from other Facebook users who can become a “fan” of your business. Chances are your competitors are going to do the same thing, if they don’t have a page already.
