Essential SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Website Improvements

In today’s intensely competitive online market place, having a website that looks nice works well  isn’t enough to stay ahead of the game.  When it comes to the Internet, your success is largely determined by how well your website ranks in the search engines.  If your site isn’t in the top search results for your important keywords, the chances are good that your potential customers won’t be able to find it.

Here are some essential SEO-based website improvements and additions that every online business should consider implementing:

Make Your Pages Stand Out: In other words, each page of your website should be unique and should have value.  Include plenty of original, relevant content and make sure that the purpose of the page is obvious to the visitor, as well as to the search engines. Avoid duplicate content at all costs, because although copying information from another site may seem like a time-saving strategy, the search engines won’t rank your site if it contains duplicate content – even if it is duplicate content from another one of your company’s sites.

Add A Blog: Make sure you get a blog that is installed on your site, not one that resides somewhere else on the internet.  Unless it’s on your site, it will not help your search engine rankings.  Be sure to update your blog at least once a week with relevant topics, and encourage users to leave comments and participate in polls and surveys.  Blogs are a very popular and effective way to drive traffic to your site while increasing your web presence at the same time.

Add Google Analytics: Google Analytics provides free analytics data about your site, and also allows you to setup goals and track conversions.  Adding Google Analytics to every page of your site is a smart (and free) move.

Remember, if your site isn’t easy to find, doesn’t appear authoritative, and looks out of date, visitors won’t stick around long enough to become customers, and your business may never reach its full potential.

This was a great post, and I found it really helpful – SEO is usually so daunting! Thanks for putting out some info that’s easier to “get”.
