Email Marketing Campaigns: The Basics

You have a great product or service to offer, but convincing potential customers of this may seem like a daunting task. Reaching people via their email can be a very effective way to market, but sending mass emails also has the potential to hurt the reputation and credibility of your business.  Unsolicited emails are often regarded as SPAM, and are frequently deleted by email filters, manually deleted by users, or unread.

For these reasons, many businesses rely on a client email list of people who have used their product or service in the past and/or have expressed an interest in doing so by providing their email address to the business. Including a form on your website that invites visitors to provide their email address in order to receive updates and coupons is an easy way to obtain this information.

Once you have a list of email contacts, the next step is to decide the best way to distribute your email quickly and effectively. Many email marketing software programs and tools exist online for this purpose, and there are even some Internet marketing companies that specialize in managing your email marketing campaigns for you (called email marketing service providers, like Constant Contact or Aweber).

Once the emails have been sent, you can keep track of who opens the emails and how many times they are opened by logging in to your email marketing service provider  account. This way, you can see which email campaigns are effective and which are not, which will help you to create a more effective email marketing campaign letter, and a more streamlined mailing list.
