Email marketing is still a tried and true mechanism for marketing your business. Though it has lost some of its shine compared to the social media applications, you still can’t beat the value of an opt-in mailing list. If you’re still not sending regular emails to your contacts you’re leaving a huge amount of opportunity on the table.
Myth #1: Sending through Outlook is just as effective as those “fancy” programs.
The average open rate for our clients is between 25% – 37%. What are your Outlook stats? Chances are, if you’re using Outlook to send emails you have no idea. This is our favorite myth because it’s just so very terribly wrong – it’s almost cute. Outlook is great for day to day communication, but it doesn’t have the industrial marketing strength that Constant Contact does. You can’t track opens, click-throughs, and no way could you dream about segmenting your list.
Myth #2: You don’t need ‘industrial strength’ email marketing tools.
This is our least favorite myth because it’s just so very terribly wrong. It’s not cute at all, and in fact could cost your business, and reputation beyond measure. If you are going to take any time at all to write an email, and collect your contacts, clients, and potentials email addresses you owe it to yourself to use the best tools possible. You will literally save hours of struggling with sub-par applications (like Outlook) that simply weren’t made to be marketing tools. You will literally earn hundreds or thousands in sales when you can target your campaigns, and analyze your results.
Myth #3: People will think I’m a spammer.
Unless you actually are a spammer, your clients and contacts want to hear from you. A tip to avoid being mistaken for a spammer: Don’t email to anyone who doesn’t know you, and don’t purchase bulk email lists.
Myth #4: My list isn’t big enough to get any real value from this service.
When you use the robust reporting features showing click-throughs, and opens you’ll be able to see the actual value of each person in your database.
Chances are your list isn’t as small as you think. Are you including past clients, potential clients, and contacts?
Myth #5: The return on investment (ROI) is too small to care about.
Studies show email’s ROI is between $45 – $48 for every dollar spent.
email will have driven $28 billion in sales by the end of 2008 and will drive $32.6 billion in sales in 2009, according to the Direct Marketing Association.
Myth #6: Email doesn’t work! Spam blockers stop it before it reaches the inbox.
That’s why we rely on Constant Contact® to maintain white lists for us. Our powerful partnership makes sending to the hard-to-reach customers of Yahoo, Hotmail, and AOL a breeze. Unlike other website developers, we don’t have our own proprietary mail client. If your email doesn’t get through to the inbox of your audience, your message is lost and so is your time and money.
Myth #7: It’s too expensive.
Email is actually one of the least expensive and best marketing channels for sales and retention. You can try it free for 60 days. You will only be charged according to the size of your list. You can send as many times in a month as you want.
Myth #8: You don’t have what it takes to put together a successful email campaign.
