By now, everyone who is anyone knows how important it is to have a blog associated with their businesses. Unfortunately, many of these people rush out and set up blogs and begin adding content without taking the time to develop a plan or a strategy. This leads them to make some very common, and also very counter-productive, mistakes.
Sporadic Posting
The rationale behind this common mistake is “if I don’t have time to post everyday then I will just post whenever I get a chance.” Unfortunately, sporadic posting makes your blog appear less authoritative and can make followers and subscribers of your blog drop off. If you can’t add a new post everyday, decide when you can post, create a schedule, and stick to it.
Missing Call to Action
Giving away excellent information in your blogs is always recommended, but don’t forget to add a call to action at the end of your posts. You can direct your reader to more information on your website, or other blog articles which will entice the reader to stay longer and subscribe. You can also use calls to action to direct the reader to the next steps so you can further help them.
Overusing Keywords
Let’s say that your business provides dog grooming services. If so, then it is a good idea to include the phrase “dog grooming” as many times as possible in every blog post, right? Wrong. Keyword stuffing makes your blog look like Spam, both to search engines and to users. Allow your writing to flow naturally, focusing on the quality of the content rather then the number of keywords used—you can always go back and add keywords and key phrases later if you need to.
