Crank Up Your LinkedIn Account with Twitter for More Visibility

By design, LinkedIn has been the most conservative of the social networking platforms. With a limited array of interaction, most social media adopters have flocked to Twitter or Facebook instead. Even most business owners create an account and then don’t touch it for months at a time. All that is changing now, since LinkedIn has added a Twitter feature.

What makes this feature unique is that it allows you to update your status from Twitter, and send Tweets through LinkedIn. That’s some great functionality compared to Facebook which only allows Pages to interact one way (from Facebook to Twitter).

This is great for two reasons:

1. You can now reach the people in your LinkedIn network without getting them to follow you in Twitter.

2. This makes LinkedIn more dynamic and valuable as a connections resource.

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Sign into your account
  2. Choose: Profile > Edit Your profile
  3. Click “Add Twitter Account”
  4. LI-twitter1

  5. Check to see if your information is correct, then click “Allow”
  6. LI-twitter2

  7. If you want a select few Tweets to be sent to your Linkedin, choose “Only Tweets that contain #in”. Now,  if you use the “#in” hashtag in your Tweet, it will go to LinkedIn.

  8. Send a test Tweet using the “#in” tag
    LI-twitter4
  9. Check LinkedIn to make sure your Tweet shows up (it appears below the status box). Then send a test Status update back to Twitter by checking the box next to the Twitter icon.

That’s all there is to it! We recommend that you play with the settings to determine if you want everyone to see all your Tweets, or if you want to focus certain Tweets just for your LinkedIn connections. How do you think you’ll use this new feature? Leave a comment and let us know!
