Last month, we reported on the launch of Bing, Microsoft’s new search engine. In the past month, Bing has created a lot of buzz, and Microsoft is trying to make sure that it stays that way in the months to come by announcing the launch of several, Bing-only search features.
The newest is a Twitter search feature, which allows users to see the latest Tweets of some of the more prominent Twitter users, like Al Gore and other notables, in Bing’s search results. This type of search is something that Google Inc is rumored to have been working on for several years now, and is designed to personalize a user’s search experience and help them keep up with top Twitter users.
In a blog post earlier this week, Sean Suchter, general manager of Microsoft’s Silicon Valley Search Technology Center described the company’s reasons for the new search feature.
“We’ve been listening carefully to what consumers really want in this space,” Sucher told ComputerWorld.com. “We’re not indexing all of Twitter at this time. . .we picked a few thousand people to start, based primarily on their follower count and the volume of tweets.”
A spokesperson for Google did not confirm or deny to ComputerWorld that the company has been focused on the development of a similar search result feature.
